There is a long story behind the release of this song after the powerful and explosive success of "California Nights" which was a top ten success in most markets. This was not the recommended follow-up from any source except Bob Crewe. It proved a disaster, and the stations would then not touch a LG record in 1968-69, despite how good they were. Listen to "Brink of Disaster", the next single. A great commercial song doomed because of this colossal failure. Ah, what could have been!

DJs ignored Lesley probably because she had been away from music scene for some time attending Sarah Lawrence College. When she graduated in 1968 she had no career left , so to speak. From the start, Lesley limited her appearances and recording sessions around school.. it came first.

Think this was the follow up single to "California Nights".You can hear traces of "California Nights" on it especially the middle bridge part.Thanks for posting.

This is one of my favourite records. It contains that great Lesley Gore-Bob Crewe sound so reminiscent of his Beach Boys work and the California sound he created. This is a musicians song for other musicians. Very sophisticated single for its time. I wish they would issue a cd with all of her Bob Crewe work especially that of the Crewe label from after her Quincy Jones Mercury Days....where is the great "Back Together"?..
